The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the National Green Tribunal order allowing Kerala to use the parking space in the water spread area of the Mullaperiyar dam, according to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
An official release said the State government filed the petition challenging the NGT order acting on the orders of the Chief Minister and based on legal opinion. Tamil Nadu had argued before the NGT that since the land belonged to it, Kerala should not be allowed to construct the parking lot. Recently, the NGT had allowed Kerala to park its vehicles but ordered it not to undertake any construction work on the property. The release dismissed allegations that the State did not act pro actively on the issue and denied charges that the government officials were not present during the hearings at the NGT.
